FRACTIONS
We started this week with a fun task
on fractions. We got a challenge to create a special recipe on either a pizza
or a cake, using terms like “one-third, one-fourth, more, less, unlike, like” etc.
We had to use different type of ingredients of our choice to make the food item
and also mention the quantity of each ingredient. This was actually testing our
prior knowledge on “Fractions”. The next day we were divided into two groups
and were asked a set of questions on fractions. There were basic questions like “What is a fraction” and
“What is a like, unlike, proper, improper fraction” and “What are the main
parts of a fraction” and many more. We got so engrossed in the discussion that
we even lost track of scores. On the third day¸ after assessing our knowledge
on this topic, our teachers explained us in detail the meaning and the use of
fractions in our daily life. Such wide application of fractions really amazed
us and we realized that even a slight error, in getting our fractions right, can
mess up lot of things, even a taste of our food. We ended this fun week by
understanding how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed
numbers to proper fractions. It was a very interesting week and we are looking
forward for the coming Monday.
