ART

Exploring Mandana

All us grade 5 students explored the “Mandana Folk Art” of Rajasthan in which we make a sketch related to nature. We, after that painted a coat of reddish-brown paint over our sketch. In the next class, since the sketch had dried we had over line everything we wrote so that the painting is visible. We had great fun in painting, sketching etc.
A few of us had a chance of finishing it by outlining the sketch we had made with a white paint. A few of us were giving the finishing touches while a few were putting a coat of paint. It was  a great learning experience for all of us and are very curios and excited to know what will happen next class.

In art we began with learning about the folk arts of different cultures in India.  We saw a slide show made by Sukshan sir on different types of folk arts. We learnt about ‘Mandana wall art’ which belongs to a small village in Rajasthan. This art is used to decorate the walls of the mud houses. In that we need to first draw the borders and then do the painting using muddy brown as a base/background of the painting and the white colour is used for drawing the main picture, borders are essential part of this painting. The whole family draws it together so it takes maximum one day to complete it. Grade 5 students are working towards making this painting.
